Phase 1 testing of the highly anticipated app, which gamifies finding BE KIND signs and positive affirmations in our community, is under way. The mobile application has been in production over the last five months and is ready for initial testing.
CEAK, from the nonprofit Action For Kindness and their supporter, the Infinite Love Project and the makers of the BE KIND sign, is an innovative community services mobile app with two key functions. First, it gamifies finding positive affirmations (e.g. BE KIND signs) in the community, and second it features an underlying utility which connects players and non-players to non-profit and other community service organizations located in their geographic proximity. The app aims to encourage connection and support for people in any given area where the game is available. For more information, visit https://www.actionforkindness.org
MAGIC, in collaboration with The Estonian Entrepreneurship University of Applied Sciences (EUAS) and DO OK, a technology consultancy and software development company with offices in Estonia, is proud to announce the successful development of CEAK as on of two groundbreaking applications for two startup companies based in Westminster: Action For Kindness and Sober Livin.
SoberTime is an innovative smartwatch app from Sober Livin, an inaugural member of MAGIC’s StartUp Lab cohort, focused on promoting sobriety. It features a user-friendly interface where users can customize a virtual sobriety token, log their sober/clean time, and see their progress in real-time on their smartwatch. Both minimum viable products serve not-for-profit missions and were developed at no cost to the entrepreneurs, eliminating the issue of finding and affording a developer, which can be especially challenging in a rural setting due to limited resources and talent pools. Meanwhile, Software Development and Entrepreneurship as well as Game Design and Development students at EUAS who were guided by professional developers at DO OK, gained valuable insights into the entrepreneurial process and earned credits for completed work.
“The developers at DO OK went above and beyond the call of duty to work with students and usher these apps across the finish line on behalf of our entrepreneurs,” said Graham Dodge, Executive Director of MAGIC. “We look forward to working with them again and seeing how these projects blossom into long term engagements between our mutual ecosystems.”
The partnership between MAGIC and EUAS was made possible by Maryland’s cooperative partnership with Estonia, particularly through the City of Westminster which has collaborated with the city of Paide since 2002 and who’s foresight and dedication laid the foundation for this innovative solution to our local business landscape.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this partnership to help us build the foundation of our vision for the app," said Tina Miller, Executive Director of Action For Kindness. For more information and to sign up for their newsletter, email actionforkindness@gmail.com
